Annie, her poodle Giggi, and I left Florida to drive to Annie's home in Texas.
We traveled about nine hours a day using the Interstate highways through the Southern
States of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. We reached Allen, Texas (near Dallas) in
three days. We stayed overnight in motels with swimming pools and it was wonderful to
bathe in mid February.
At the border of each state there was a welcome center which offered information, maps,
brochures, a knowledgable representative and refreshments. The facilities were so clean
and well kept in the rest areas along the highways.
We passed wonderful sights. In Biloxi, Mississippi we saw old colonial
houses that reminded me of novels and story books. We drove miles along white sandy
beaches and saw people enjoying them (in February). We saw very interesting plants,
flowers and trees with hanging Spanish moss. We saw the magnolia trees and I wished they
were in bloom. The swamps were as mysterious looking as they have appeared in films. All
in all, it was a magnificent trip.

Shrimp Creole
In New Orleans we sampled the famous food specialties... Shrimp Creole and of course
beignet... the square doughnuts sprinkled with powdered sugar served hot with coffee

In Texas I stayed in the home of Annie and her daughter Sherrie. We
visited many historical places in Dallas. We spent some time in the Kembell Art Museum in
Fort Worth. A day trip took us to Troy, Texas to visit Annie's friend Phil where we picked
some pecans.
